social media addiction in a spiritual mind frame and how to overcome

Social Media Addiction- What It Truly Means In A Spiritual Mind frame And How To Overcome

Social media addiction, what it truly means in a spiritual mind frame and how to overcome in a spiritual mind frame with physical references.

Starting this post with the spiritual mind frame

(expanded further in this post)

Social media addiction is like a key always left by the door, you need it in order to leave the house.

If you are unable to leave the house without a key, then you cannot leave.

It simply means to access the whole world, you need something in order to feel safe, content, validated and still have a home.

With a key you know exactly what is truly going on.

But is this truly needed?

social media addiction

What this means:

The explanation I shared means- You have the need to constantly use social media and without it, you feel inadequate

or in other words, you feel out of place or lacking something.

I referred to needing a key to leave the house, this simply means you will be able to

have access to everything social media has to offer

and social media use is necessary and has become a duty.

Reference to Leaving the house means it is a duty to use social media

and if you do not have the key, you cannot have the feeling social media gives you, because of this you feel you cannot be active or move

I wasn’t planning on interpreting this, but I hope this makes sense.

The Physical Perspective Of Social Media Addiction In A Spiritual Mind frame

My E-book The Physical Perspective Of Social Media In A Spiritual Mind frame gives you a visual meaning of what social media addiction means

in a spiritual mind-frame visually and provides you questions to explore.

Its a clear summary of this post, but both this post and the e book provide answers of the physical perspective of

a social media addiction in a spiritual mind frame.

In this post

I started this post with an introduction on what social media addiction is in a spiritual mind frame but this will be expanded further of what

social media addiction truly means in a spiritual mind frame, with factors included in this.

In the end of this post, I have included one question to explore to help you self reflect and find a way to finally move forward from social media addiction.

Personally I like to speak in code, but I will attempt to speak in a way you will truly understand if you try to grasp the meaning.

You are reading this from someone who is spiritual and wants to help others.

If you are reading this, I believe in you and my aim is to help as many people as possible.

What is social media in a physical perspective- The downsides of social media

I describe social media in a physical perspective as the use of connecting with others online.

In recent years, social media has been used in a very negative light and that negative light is

to criticise others or compare themselves to others rather than to truly connect.

Social media use has been a way to express isolation.

Comparison is normal but social media takes it up a notch.

Rather than a place to connect with others in the real world social media has now become a home.

It has made people justify their own actions and truly not care about others.

Identity has become the social media’s seed.

social media addiction

What is social media addiction and the effects of social media addiction

Social media addiction is the overuse of staying online to gather information constantly about someone or something.

There are many effects of social media addiction:

  • It takes too much of unnecessary time.
  • It stops you from taking care of yourself, you can develop a bad diet or even not care about your own hygiene or even have not the need of exercising daily.
  • It can cause depression as you feel alone. In a world of social media, people look for instant gratification rather than

taking action for something even if the action takes time and is meaningful, lack of patience develops.

  • It changes the way you think about the world and other people, even if it is not true.
  • You start to become selfish as what is important is your own pleasure.
  • Your identity is in social media through the way you think and your interests.
  • You feel bad about yourself as the information online can target others to criticise.
  • Social skills can be negative impacted, make you anxious or awkward.
  • It changes your perspectives on certain things that might be wrong.
  • You desire to isolate yourself from everyone.

and there are many other negative effects of social media addiction

Main signs you have social media addiction

  • The time you spend on social media: If you are spending at least 4 hours a day on social media, this shows a dependence and priority for social media use
  • You can spend less than 4 hours, but if there is a need to always check your phone or checking it often, then this is another sign of a social media addiction
  • You sleep with your phone
  • You feel negative most of the day as social media is negative
  • You are comparing yourself constantly and feel negative or unhappy with your life

Why have I mentioned this information when this post is about what social media truly means in a spiritual mind frame

The reasons why I am mentioning this is so you can truly understand what social media means in a physical perspective

and then you will be able to understand it in a spiritual perspective

Physical perspective and spiritual perspective interlink with each other

Social media addiction, in a spiritual mind frame

In the beginning of this post, I explained what social media addiction is in a spiritual mind frame,  but I will now expand on this.

Spiritual perspective (mind frame): this is to do with your duty of consuming social media, the meaning, effect and cause of social media addiction

In order to access the world, you need a key.

But because of how large the world is, when you finally access the world, you are overwhelmed,

due to this, you believe you have a duty to stay in the world you have opened through access,

This now makes you forget yourself, and you now become of the world where you…

no longer think about your own identity and needs, and you have rejected what truly matters.

Now where you have come from, is now desolate.

Your access of the world is , to know what is going on,  but now relationships don’t mean anything

What is now important is knowing the world rather than knowing who you are and who others are.

You have a sense of peace staying in the world you have just entered, because your duty is to know what

is going on, as this is now your world or in other words your own belonging

Your own belonging is what is more important but is this realistic?

I hope this makes sense, If you comment below, I will consider your feedback

Later in this post I will share with you a spiritual perspective in overcoming social media addiction

The flip side, manipulation of social media addiction- A Spiritual Reference

You have entered the world with your key, and now you feel the need to stay there, when the key

was to open this world for a reason.

The reason was to know someone or something specifically but that reason now becomes your own world.

Social media draws you in, which is why it is always important to know your own reasons,

and what truly is important and can give you that contentment.

In the world we live in today, we do not know what else to do that will make us feel better rather

than going on social media, but I will help you with this in this post by explaining priorities you

need to know and start doing daily

social media addiction

Social media addiction isn’t normal

The need to always stay on social media for long periods of time daily and weekly is not normal

You need real sunlight not constant artificial light because this is not real light

You need to move during the day (stay active) what is important is making a difference and truly living the life God has given you.

I strongly believe in God and I believe he has given you the world to live in, not the world to escape from

Social And Media- What it Means (Origins) And How It Connects- With A Spiritual Perspective

Social defined by dictionary.com is relating to, devoted to, or characterized by friendly companionship or relations.

While media is defined by dictionary.com is  the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, magazines, and the internet, that reach or influence people widely.

I define social as the need to connect while definition of media is to receive visual and audio information.

Social and media both have the importance of connecting with others whilst

allowing you to know information of the world around you

If you are constantly receiving information and feeling connected online, you eventually feel you have everything you need

and connecting with others outside of social media no longer becomes an interest or the importance of it

The priority of social media

When you have the need to go on social media daily, or even weekly, there is a priority of social media use

What is important in overcoming this social media addiction is gaining another priority that can fill the need.

if your need to connect and to know things is to go on social media

what can you do to know things and connect with others?

It is to explore the world outside of social media, keep reading and you will know

from a spiritual perspective, as mentioned previously when you have opened the world with the access of a key, your priority now becomes to know rather than to change

What is truly needed and why social media addiction catches you

In reality we need validation, we need something that will make us feel safe

Social media provides that but in small doses, in order for you to keep coming back for more

With social media, there is a digital footprint that you develop

and if you decide to leave it, then it can be difficult to find something else that truly makes you feel like you belong

Social media catches you because as humans you need emotional validation

You need to feel a belonging and truly a purpose

and social media addiction provides that but in a hidden way, and the hidden way is it makes you feel like you are getting something

The reality is it is not going to save you

Social media is not going to save you.

What saves you is your need to care, your own humanity, humanity in definition of this post is to feel for yourself and to feel for others

and finally make a change in your own life and the real world

This post was created in June 2026 and you can currently see the world has changed in a negative light

It has changed tremendously especially after quarantine or in other words after isolation

But social media shows this more and makes you think negative of the world

During the time of isolation, we had no physical access with others or was limited distancing

During quarantine in 2020, isolation and social distancing was crucial and this made us likely stay online for as long as possible.

Now moving forward, social media use has increased in the past few years and as mentioned the world has changed and is changing

But has it truly changed in a positive way? where others care for each other or changed where what is important is your own survival?

During isolation, we had to have social distancing, this was to protect ourselves from getting what was spread during the time,

there was a period in which people ran out of toilet paper and will do anything to get it

To social distance to protect yourself is a means of survival , to do anything to get toilet paper also shows a need of survival.

During this time people care mostly about protecting themselves as a means of survival and there is seperation.

Social media shows separation a lot but in reality it is also there.

Personally I believe there is still care in the world, the importance is to be open to it, but also make you are setting boundaries with others.

Your own survival and social media addiction

When you need to protect yourself, this is the only thing that matters

Social media heightens that need with the information that is shared so

that you know what might not truly be true.

What is important is the difference you make in the world for others and yourself.

About a movie I have watched in the past

A movie I watched many years ago was about a man who was stuck in the island and was unable to leave there and

stayed deserted, as he had no choice

There was no access to  the outside world, and he had no resources to keep him stable

But what he did eventually was find ways he could survive through resources that were in the island, he stayed

there for many years and physically changed even for the better

But the whole story is he found resources to help him survive without connection to the outside world

Without social media

Without the use of social media, you can feel deserted as this was previously your way of belonging in the world.

The positive thing about us humans is with desperation you will find other ways to be stable.

You will find reasons to be active.

social media addiction

The other ways for survival

Ask yourself what can you indulge in without social media that truly will make you feel safe?

What you need to be aware of as mentioned is social media cannot save you, all it can do is take time away but

eventually with time, you will notice that it is not there to save you in the present moment and in the future

Things always change.

My experience with social media addiction

When I was first exposed to social media, the only reason that motivated me to go on it

was to connect with those I knew, social media made me very excited to connect with close friends.

Phone calls were difficult to make as they were more expensive and I would rather connect through visiting other people’s

houses or online social media.

As I became older, social media made me feel sad because I was seeing things I

felt I was missing out on mainly from Facebook, because of this I deactivated myself from this app, and haven’t

been on it for years, but at the same time,  I was on twitter in 2013 and there were negative information where others were criticising other people,

it made me dislike others and see people as bad.

In the real world from being around people, I was able to see the good in people.

Many years forward

Towards and during quarantine I had a hobby that I spent time on and spent less time on social media

But then a traumatic experience happened in 2023, where someone betrayed me and instead I decided to stay on social media

to spend time on it all day and that was the worst mistake I did.

Moving forward, I have ways on how I will spend less time, I am aware of the triggers and try and remove the triggers at specific times.

how to move on

Statistics of social media use in The US (Social media addiction)

I mentioned in this post about how quarantine or having to be in isolation made separation happen more often

The statistics of social media use from Sokolove law has made awareness of how many people possibly have social media addiction in 2026

Sokolove Law explains in his post Social media addiction statistics:

  • Kids and teenagers are at particular risk of social media addiction. Teens average 5 hours of social media use per day, according to Gallup.
  • Roughly 95% of kids ages 10-17 are using social media constantly, per the University of Colorado, Anschutz.

and the typical person spends 145 minutes or nearly 3 hours on social media daily, per the University of California, Davis.

This can suggest the use of social media has increased more over the years after isolation

I recommend to read more of this post

About the statistics of social media use in the UK

I was interested in learning more about the statistics of social media use in the UK

Social media use has increased since the pandemic for others in the UK , especially with the access of Tiktok

I attended university (college) recently and TikTok was one of the topics discussed.

Teachers use the app and it has now become normal

TikTok has been advised to be used as research and a way to enjoy certain topics

It is common for TikTok to now have dependence and people spending less time on other apps such as

YouTube. But YouTube is still used as research

After 2020 isolation- teenagers and other social media apps

it is more common for teenagers  to use social media since isolation as there are no other ideas on what to do

I suggest ideas in this post

Social media addiction in teens

As a teen, there is a great need to belong and it helps a lot when you have a social circle.

It can feel depressing when you feel you have no-one who is there for you.

When I was a teen, I had a need to make good friends with others

but with that need, I experienced friendships build and friendships break.

If you have also had this experience, then you may be aware social media can feed the need

to make good friends but in reality it doesn’t help to build.

Social media addiction might feel like the only choice but you have many avenues

My advice if you are a teen (in adolescence)

If you are a teen reading this, my advice to you is find something that you love

and you keep it personal to yourself, your family might know about it or even not depending

on how your relationship is with your family , with this thing try to express yourself through this specific thing you do

I recommend education also to spend more time being productive

Specific things/hobbies I recommend is:

  • Web development
  • Education
  • Find a job
  • Volunteer for more experience
  • Learn a new language , expressing yourself through that,
  • Watching movies in a new language as a way to learn
  • Writing
  • Drawing
  • Animation
  • Fashion design
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering and there are many more. I will consider making a list in the future for you to see how many options you have

When you have something you love, it makes you happy and you feel a connection

As a teenager, connection is very important, which is why I recommend you to find something you love, personal to you

and what will make you more proud of it, is if you keep it as a secret and allow it to show for itself

I recommend connecting with God, you can go to a church or read the bible if you are a Christian

and build the relationship through this, it is very important when you are younger

to find a relationship with yourself and God.

A bible verse I want to share, is Matthew 5:8: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

When you decide to consume information that is good for you and doesn’t make you feel bad, as a result you are keeping a healthy lifestyle

and with a healthy and productive lifestyle, you are putting yourself and your needs first

Younger children start pure but with certain information, it changes the way they think

Consuming information that positive and motivational is important, scrolling makes you access everything whether negative, or positive

but it doesn’t physically take you anywhere

social media addiction

How to overcome social media addiction

The information I have shared in this post already provides ideas to overcoming social media addiction.

But I will share more information. This is the first and helpful steps to overcoming social media addiction:

  1. Admit you have a social media addiction
  2. Find interests and start spending your time on those
  3. Find the triggers and work on it, for example if your trigger to social media addiction is when you are alone and bored, what

can you do to stop being alone for that time, or I also suggest finding movies, books you can read

How to overcome social media addiction in a spiritual mind frame

In a spiritual mind-frame, realise what the reality is and recognise you truly do not need social media, by finding alternatives

You will always have the key left by the door, which helps you learn you always have the control

Make the key a choice rather than a need. Work on your world at home (spiritual reference)

what is something you can spend a lot of time on, it can be learning

it can be working a job

social media addiction

Your priority

What is it that truly is important to you?

The question I will advise you to reflect on is: What are 10 goals outside of social media you can focus on this month and reflect on at the end of the day

My answer for 10 goals:

  1. Walk for 30 minutes everyday
  2. Learn how to speak Spanish
  3. watch a movie for 30 minutes everyday in another language
  4. find books in the library to learn how to cook recipes and how to bake
  5. cook one recipe daily
  6. bake one recipe
  7. read a story book a  day
  8. read the bible everyday
  9. clean my house everyday
  10. Make sure I am spending time decluttering

What priority can you set? I hope this list gives you ideas

Journal question at the end of the day: How was my day and how do I feel because of it, and how will my day be any different?

The information I was aiming to share throughout this post to overcome spiritual mind frame, is to find purpose in yourself and others

find something where you are helping or giving to others

this can be a part time job, then find interests you can do in the spare time that doesn’t involve social media, for example fashion design, drawing

I also like playing sims it takes a lot of time but it stops me from overusing social media.

I hope this helps as this is a very long post. If  you have any questions or any information you want me to provide in a post, comment down below.

I intend to write more posts on this in the near future and develop this post further.
